About this form
Please complete this Adult Safeguarding Referral form if you believe an Adult at Risk has experienced, is experiencing or is at risk of experiencing abuse, neglect or self-neglect.
Definition of an Adult at Risk
Where a local authority has reasonable cause to suspect that an adult in its area (whether or not ordinarily resident there):
- has needs for care and support (whether or not the authority is meeting any of those needs),
- is experiencing, or is at risk of, abuse or neglect, and;
- as a result of those needs is unable to protect themselves against the abuse or neglect or the risk of it. Your submission will be looked at by a social care professional, who will inform you of the outcome.
Definition of Abuse
The deliberate act of a person to cause ill or bad effect to another.
Definition of Neglect
Neglect can be viewed as separate from abuse as it can include deliberate acts of failure by a person to meet someone's needs and omissions of care that may be unintentional.
Definition of Self-neglect
Self-neglect involves failing to care for one's health or surroundings and includes behaviour such as hoarding. Further information about self-neglect is available on the Northamptonshire Adult Safeguarding Board website.
