Northampton Museum and Art gallery is looking to work with individuals, community groups and heritage organisations across the county to develop our new Arts Council exhibition Home (working title) to open in March 2027.
Home has many meanings - from the buildings we live in to a feeling that goes beyond a specific place. Home has many aspects that can create common ground but also attributes that are culturally or completely unique and represents many things that aren’t just bricks and mortar or sofas and chests of drawers.
The new exhibition will look at what home means to the people of Northamptonshire. It aims to give a voice to those who live in Northamptonshire that may not be frequently heard in museums, prompting memories for visitors and sparking interest in other cultures that give us new perspectives on our own experience.
The intention is that through working with different groups and people across Northamptonshire it will create a shared experience as well as an archive of history that has not yet collected or captured by NMAG.
As well as this major exhibition we are looking to further explore and share your memories, thoughts, objects and images through the creation of filmed elements, a podcast series and a collaborative book that showcases the county’s homes and their meaning to us in all their different forms.
This form asks for your (as an individual or as an organisation) thoughts and responses to a series of prompt questions as well as providing you with the opportunity to share any suggestions for possible loan objects or images that might be included in the exhibition, book, film or podcasts.
